Many people don’t review their credit history reports and feel embarrassed when they are denied credit. If you have not reviewed your report recently, you need to find the mistakes that may be on your report.

I counsel that you review your credit score biannually till you have 4 credit reports in a row that contain correct info. If you haven’t reviewed latterly, you must get a copy of your report from each one of the three credit companies ( TransUnion, Experian and Equifax ).

Once you have those reports go through each one and highlight anything on your credit report that is inaccurate, miss-leading or simply not yours. If an item is being reported inaccurately or incorrectly it can damage your credit score. If you find that you have anything on your credit report that is inaccurate then you should dispute it with the credit bureau.

If an item is reporting and it is miss-leading, you may want to contact your creditor and discuss with them what they are reporting. You can also dispute those items with the credit bureau so that they will investigate the listing with your creditor. By discussing it with your creditor they may choose to change the listing. But don’t give up if it is not reporting correctly.

Finally, if you see a listing that you have never had or been a part of, then you need to dispute it immediately. These kinds of listings may be an accident but they may also be an indication of Identity Theft. By disputing them you should get those items removed from your credit report.

If you have pulled your reports and realize that you have many items on each report that must be disputed, then you may wish to hire a pro to object to those items for you. There are legitimized credit fixing companies. They can fight the items that you tell them to object to. They can continue to contest them till you tell them to stop disputing. They handle all the daily work and require little of your time to continue to work. If you have quite a lot of disputing to do, then check them out.

Good credit is crucial and if you have anything on your report that will hurt your score, you must dispute it. When you have your report correct, and then examine it again in 6 months. Repeat this process till you’ve had 4 reports that were correct. Then you can reduce checking your report to every year. By having a correct report you may be ready to build on your credit.
