Recreational vehicle insurance – Types of coverage offered
Are you one of them who want to live and travel to places in a recreational vehicle? Touring in a recreational vehicle or a RV gives you the freedom to stay in a site for some days as well as use the vehicle for exploring the local area. However, you should buy adequate insurance coverage when you purchase a recreational vehicle. Likewise, if you’re in UK and own a caravan, then you should purchase a caravan insurance policy. RVs are usually referred to as caravans in United Kingdom. RV insurance or caravan insurance policies cover the potential loss or damage caused to you or your vehicle in case of an accident.
RV insurance coverage
Most of the insurance companies offer the following basic types of coverage through a RV insurance policy.
Collision and comprehensive coverage – The collision and comprehensive coverage pays for the cost to either repair or replace the recreational vehicle when it gets damaged in an accident regardless of whether or not you’re at fault. However, while purchasing such a policy, you usually need to select a deductible amount that you need to pay out-of-pocket before your insurance company pays for the claim.
Underinsured/uninsured motorist coverage – It may happen that the other person, who is responsible for an accident, doesn’t have adequate insurance coverage. In such a situation, your insurance policy will cover your injuries and damages to your vehicle that the other party (who’s at fault) is liable for.
Medical treatment coverage – RV insurance policy pays for the cost of necessary medical care when you get involved in an accident regardless of whether or not you’re at fault. However, some policies may only pay for the medical treatment received within the first 3 years after an accident. The policies may also limit the cost of medical treatment to a specific dollar amount.
Property and bodily injury liability – The insurance policy pays for bodily injury or property damage to a third party in an accident wherein your recreational vehicle is responsible for it. The policy will cover the cost to replace or repair the damaged property along with covering the lost wages of the injured parties and the cost of their medical treatment.
Coverage on roadside assistance – The policy provides you with the coverage for towing the vehicle to the nearest qualified repair facility. It also pays for the necessary labor when your vehicle suffers an electrical or mechanical breakdown, flat tire, battery failure, insufficient supply of oil, gas, water, etc. or the RV gets entrapped in mud, snow, sand or water within 100 feet of the roadway.
It requires no mention that you use your RV for leisure purpose. So, when you’re traveling with your family, you may also carry your pets with you. Most of the policies cover your pets and that too, without any additional cost, if you have comprehensive and collision coverage on your RV insurance policy.
